Sharp and Shelley named Venom co-captains
Geelong Venom has announced Alex Sharp and Jaz Shelley as co-captains for the 2025/26 WNBL season, ahead of the club’s pre-season games in Townsville this weekend.
Sharp, fresh from a stint with the Australian Opals, brings international and domestic experience, while Shelley continues to build her profile after a breakout WNBL campaign and standout NBL1 season.
Head coach Chris Lucas said the pair’s leadership styles complement each other: “Alex leads with composure and professionalism, while Jaz drives standards and lifts those around her. Together they set the tone for our group.”
Assistant coach Megan Moody added: “Alex’s Opals experience and Jaz’s passion for the club make them the perfect leaders. They embody the resilience, talent and culture we want this team to represent.”
The Venom open their pre-season this weekend against Townsville and Canberra.
