Rocci Called Up For Opals Squad To Face China
Geelong Venom guard Maddy Rocci has been named in the Australian Opals squad for a two-game exhibition series against China at John Cain Arena on July 7 and 9.
The call-up caps a huge few months for Rocci, who returns home fresh from a WNBA training camp with expansion franchise the Toronto Tempo - taking her game to the world stage and testing herself against the best in North America.
The series serves as a key hit-out for the Opals ahead of September's FIBA Women's World Cup in Berlin, and Rocci's selection puts her firmly in the frame as the squad builds towards the tournament.
Rocci joins a star-studded group headlined by WNBL Finals MVP Courtney Woods, fresh off her second Championship with the Townsville Fire, alongside Olympians Cayla George, Amy Atwell and Ally Wilson.
Australia and China share one of the fiercest rivalries in international basketball, built across Asia Cups, Olympic campaigns and a heartbreaking 59-61 semi final loss at the last World Cup. With redemption on the line in Berlin, this series is set to add another chapter - and Rocci will be right in the middle of it, flying the flag for Geelong.
