Venom add three development players to 2025/26 roster

Geelong Venom has strengthened its commitment to pathways by signing Poppy Stevens, Georgia Taylor and Tayli DeMarco as development players for the 2025/26 WNBL season.

All three have strong ties to Victorian basketball, with Venom officials hailing their selection as proof of the opportunities being created for homegrown talent.

At just 17, Stevens is one of Geelong’s brightest prospects, earning All-Star 5 honours, Youth Player of the Year and Most Improved Player in 2024. An energetic guard, she can score from range and impact both ends of the floor.

Taylor, who starred with Dandenong in 2024, was named Club MVP and Championship Game MVP. A versatile competitor, she adds outside shooting, defensive intensity and leadership to the group.

DeMarco has already represented Victoria, featured in the NBA Academy Games, and is currently with the Melbourne Tigers’ NBL1 team. Known for her defensive edge, she recently committed to U.S. college program Belmont University.

Pathways GM Megan Moody said the trio represent the future of Geelong basketball: “Poppy, Georgia and Tayli have shown incredible commitment and resilience. Their progression into the Venom program is something the whole community can be proud of.”

Head coach Chris Lucas added: “They’re hardworking, coachable and eager to learn. Development players are a vital part of a successful program, and I’m confident they’ll contribute strongly while continuing to grow.”
