Geelong Venom sign WNBA talent Alissa Pili
Geelong Venom has secured a major signing for the upcoming WNBL season, adding WNBA forward Alissa Pili to its roster.
Drafted eighth overall in 2024 by the Minnesota Lynx, the Anchorage native starred at the University of Utah, where she eclipsed 2,000 points, was named Pac-12 Player of the Year, and set the school’s single-season scoring record. She also became the first Polynesian player in WNBA history.
Pili, who most recently played with the Los Angeles Sparks, said she was excited to join the Venom’s culture and style of play: “I lead by example, I push and encourage my teammates, and I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”
Head coach Chris Lucas praised the 5'11 forward as a “dynamic, versatile scorer” who has been on his radar for two years. “She thrives under pressure and is exactly the type of player who can help take this team forward.”
