Geelong Venom is excited to announce the commitment of emerging Australian talent Dakota Crichton on a two-year contract subject to League review and approval, marking a return to the club where her WNBL journey began.
Crichton rejoins the Venom after spending the 2025/26 WNBL season with the Townsville Fire, where she was part of the club’s championship-winning squad. Her return represents both a homecoming and a significant step forward in her development, as she transitions into a full roster position.
A Warrnambool product and crowd favourite, Crichton first joined Geelong as a development player during the club’s inaugural WNBL season. She made her league debut in November 2024 and has continued to build her game through strong performances in the NBL1 South competition with Geelong United, where she is currently playing her second season.
Standing at 185cm and capable of impacting multiple positions, Crichton is regarded as one of Victoria’s most promising young prospects. Her rise through the ranks included recognition as the Big V Championship Youth Player of the Year in 2024, and she has continued to demonstrate her versatility, work ethic, and growth at the professional level.
Head Coach Cheryl Chambers said Crichton’s return was an exciting addition to the Venom roster.
“We’re thrilled to bring Dakota back into this program,” Chambers said.
“She’s got great size, versatility, and a strong foundation, but what stands out most is her willingness to learn and compete every day.
“She’s already experienced what it takes to be part of a championship environment in Townsville, and that’s incredibly valuable for a young player. We see real upside in Dakota, and we’re excited to help her take the next step in her career back here in Geelong.”
Crichton said returning to Geelong was a special opportunity both personally and professionally.
“Geelong is where my WNBL journey started, so it feels really special to be coming back,” Crichton said.
“I’ve learned so much over the past couple of seasons — from my time here as a development player, through NBL1, and being part of a championship team in Townsville.
“To now come back and be part of this group as we build something together is really exciting. The support from the Geelong community means a lot to me, especially being from regional Victoria, and I’m looking forward to getting to work.”
Crichton’s signing adds further depth and emerging talent to the Venom roster as the club continues to build under newly appointed Head Coach Cheryl Chambers.
