The Geelong Venom are thrilled to announce that two-time WNBL championship player Bec Cole has committed to a two-year deal ahead of the 2026/27 WNBL season. Cole joins co-captain Alex Sharp as the first two players on the Venom’s new-look roster under incoming head coach Cheryl Chambers, signalling a bold new chapter for the club.

The commitment reunites Cole with Chambers, the pair having built a formidable partnership during their time together at the Southside Flyers. It was under Chambers’ guidance that Cole truly made her mark — thriving in a system built on relentless defence, sharp off-ball movement, and decisive shot-making. Those years together fostered a deep mutual trust, and when Chambers took the top job at Geelong, Cole was among the first calls she made.

“Bec is the kind of player who elevates everyone around her,” said Chambers.

She knows how I coach, she knows what I expect, and I know exactly what she brings to a team. This is a partnership that’s going to be very exciting for Geelong.”

Since her WNBL debut, Cole has established herself as one of the most dynamic and complete guards in the competition.

A nightmare matchup at both ends of the floor, she has consistently produced at an elite level — combining creative scoring off the dribble, clutch shot-making, and a defensive intensity that has drawn admiration from coaches and opponents alike. Her quick hands and instinctive reads have made her one of the WNBL’s most disruptive defenders, and her ability to perform when games are on the line has cemented her reputation as a big-game player. Cole has also worn the Opals jersey with distinction on the international stage, further evidence of a career built on sustained excellence.

“Geelong is a club on the rise, and when Cheryl came on board, that made the decision so easy for me,” said Cole.

“I know how she coaches and some of my best basketball has come under her. I’m incredibly excited to get to work and help build something special here with the Venom.”

Cole’s arrival alongside co-captain Alex Sharp gives Chambers a compelling foundation to build from. Sharp’s leadership and experience combined with Cole’s high-energy, two-way game sets the tone for what the Venom are looking to become — a genuine finals contender.

“Having Alex and Bec locked in this early tells you everything about the direction we’re heading,” said Chambers.

“These are two players with tremendous character — they compete, they lead by example, and they make the people around them better. Geelong fans are going to love watching this group.”
